Here's a piece (yes it is probably biased, a reporter praising the
media) which might be worth reading by someone.

William Powers notes that it's fashionable to accuse the media of being
sensational, stupid and unsophisticated. "It's weird so many intelligent
people can continue to believe this, especially after the last few
months, when coverage of the war story has been anything but stupid," he
says. "In fact, it's been remarkably subtle and sophisticated, a highly
complex story offered up in all its complexity."

The main problem is that it takes alot of time to understand many of
these extremely complicated senerios. World politics is fairly
complicated and only with a significant amount of time, can anyone
understand what's going on. so if you can give up the time go ahead
and learn.
