The history of the trademark goes back to branding literally
stamping a brand marking on goods (livestock, boxes/barrels/bags of
goods, etc) . The tutorial and faq are interesting reading. While
kleenex is almost common usage enough to warrant loss of tradmark
status, there is a Swiss punk band in the late 70's that were asked
by Kleenex (aka Kimberley-Clark) to stop.
Oh, it is interesting who has signed their own names over to
trademarks owned by others (businesses) that they, in turn, may or
may not own.
