I get the distinction, but i submit for consideration the
idea that Jefferson was using the word "idea" in a
metaphorical sense, not in a strict literal or legal sense.
note in the article i mentioned yesterday that Jefferson was
VERY wary of monopolies. that's the context of his
oft-quoted saying about ideas and tapers and such.
