It should also be noted that there has been quite a ferocious price war in 
the UK this year, due to Supermarket chains undercutting the main music 
retailers by £2-3 for chart releases, meaning that the top 20 or so albums 
are cheaper than they've been for over 10 years. So sales numbers have been 
helped along a bit ;)

Still flies in the face of the doomsayers though...

I'm assuming the same sort of thing is going down / has gone down in the 
States ?
