INTRODUCTION
Louis Celine described the act of creativity as akin to discovering a statue buried in sand. You trip over it, hurt your foot, get curious and then start to DIG. This perhaps describes the process by which came across these tracks. All of them were downloaded from the Internet in late night or early morning stumbles, before my brain became too occupied with cleaning the toilet or watering the plants. If you are a follower of Dr Freud i.e. you think going to the toilet is sexy - then you will naturally jump to the conclusion that this collection of music reflects my personality. Personally I think that is true to a certain extent ; what each piece shares (with myself) is a certain "attitude" of poetic nihilism ; most are rough hewn and idiosyncratic with a pop (avant) sensibility but punk rock (in the truest sense of the word).
The sharper ones amongst you will also notice that the list is mostly devoid of anything that my flat mate would call "art shit" or what I would call studio based music with a reflexive reference to technique (e.g. "plunderphonics" ,"sound art"). This doesn't mean my pockets dont bulge with Asmus Tietchens and John Oswald CDs. It simply reflects the fact that I come across this music in a very different way (mostly in concert
situations).
So, I hope you enjoy this selection as much as I enjoyed stumbling upon it. To steal a line from the mighty Orchestrae Murphy: futile letters of complaint to the usual address.
