01. The Polperro Fisherman's Choir: Hymns of the Old Church Choir
Between long hours of catching fish these fellows from England's deep South have got together and sang songs about churches. This one featuring the lovely Beth Butters, who was "constantly requested to sing with the Choir, for her clear Cornish voice blends so naturally with those of the men".

02. Laurel & Hardy: The New Recruits
From the beginning of the film "Beau Hunks". This is ace.

03. Berlin Phonogram Archive: Praise Song of the Roya
One of my favourite ethnomusicological recordings. Great to brush your teeth to. Now try saying "ethnomusicological" whilst brushing your teeth.

04. Unit_Bath: Whiter Hair, Softer Teeth (extract)
From the soundtrack to the film "Whiter Hair, Softer Teeth" by Tokyo based design collective Namaiki. Collage of lots of stuff, much plundered from Ubuweb and a variety of other sources. Sounds nice.

05. Irene Moon: Floralaldehyde (extract)
Insect laboratory recording from Lexington, Kentucky.
06. Rhythms of Steam: The Lonely Rhythm of a Night Goods Train
Texturally gorgeous recording of a choo-choo train. Plus some nice crackling.

07. Mozart / Sheffield Teachers Choir: Rex Tremendae
One of my favourite recordings of Mozart's Requiem is this one, from 1975 by the Sheffield Teacher's Choir. And only cost 25p, too.

08. Erik Satie / Aldo Ciccolini: Trois Nocturnes: Doux et Calme
Satie's last works for piano. Yum.
09. Alan Lomax: Levee Camp Holler
All I can say about this is read Lomax's "The Land Where the Blues Began".
10. BBC Communications: The Sounds of Insects & Fish
Along with Laurel & Hardy, this is the most plundered record of the past few years in my studio. The BBC make the best natural history programming. Yep.

11. Folkways Sound Patterns: Streetcries: NYC Gardenias
From Smithsonian Folkways, an amazing album of environmental, industrial and electronic sounds, processed and unprocessed, backwards and forwards.

12. Auf Zum Schutzenfest: Auf Zum Schutzenfest
This record is fucked. Album art of men in Lederhosen with these enormous brass instruments - a recording of some enormous polka and waltz event where everyone involved seems to get gradually more pissed as it goes along. I was in Cologne recently and was delighted to find very similar items on Germany daytime TV. Only with more moustaches.

13. Siegfried Wendel: Orchestrion by Frati & Co; around 1880
Staying in Deutschland, an item from the collection of Siegfried Wendel, who owns one of the world's largest collections of mechanical musical instruments. He also has an enormous beard, fantastic hat and big, scary eyes.

14. Social Skills Centre: White Christmas
This is from a tape that a bald friend gave to me. He was working with a group of disabled kids and they made this absolutely amazing Christmas album.
