| Depends on what you mean. Different art forms have accepted and
re-accepted appropriation at many different times.
For instance, folk-music since the dawn of time has had some
element of "recycling" associated with it, as different musicians
take words or melodies from earlier generations and alter them to
suit their own purposes. Yet recently with the advent of modern
draconian copyright law, this practice has been dying out.
