The "mingle" concept is old, the TERM mingle is old for example.
(music + jingle)

However, the goal of replacing regular commercials with them is
an all together new animal. This hip hop station now plays 5 less
commercials per hour thanks to those.

When has THAT happened before? Like Steev said, the only real
comparison to make is to old school radio, with full scale ads going
on within the programming itself, trying to make itself seamless.
