I do not want to defend Sony (after all it is often a question of what
side we are on rather than what we think of a particular matter) but my
opinion is that it is always better to be shamelessly sampled, copied or
intellectually plundered than falling on the other side, the censor's
side.

That's why in our Hazard Records manifesto we stated that we will not
question in any case the future use of our records in other contexts.
This includes being sampled by Sony or being used as an anthem by a Nazi
party.

I know there are other options, like allowing sampling if and only if
the resulting track allows sampling too (the Free Software Foundation
uses that one, don't they).

That's the point. I see one million reasons to attack Sony in a million
different ways, but this particular UR case is the one that I do not
see. (Am I the only one?)
