That's an ongoing controversy. It's pretty obvious to most people that the
line was thought up by NASA's PR department, but Armstrong swears he made
it up himself, and NASA backs him up. I don't believe most of the
government conspiracy theories floating around, but I think this one is
genuine. NASA for some reason wants everyone to think it wasn't
prearranged. But if he thought of it himself, why did he flub the line?
"One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" actually makes no
sense at all. What's the difference between man and mankind? It was
supposed to be "one small step for *a* man, one giant leap for mankind".
