I've only skimmed the Wired articles (its a whole bouquet of articles
about the phenomenon). But it doesn't surprise me at all that Wired
waited for this moment, rather than write about it sooner (which even
magazines like Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly have been doing
for a while).
Since the record companies seem to now be in the process of assenting to
the mp3 format, with some very particular and telling adjustments, its
now becoming a corporate phenomenon rather than a popular one.
Considering the recent tenor and focus of Wired, this seems exactly like
the moment they would choose to do an mp3 focus.
