many of you have probably seen plagiarist.org, definitely a site with
a kindred vision....

Subject: dupont goes after plagiarist
Hi, I'm sending this to a few of you, who may recall the
"Plagiarist Acquisitions" page, an art project which spoofed corporate takeovers
by pretending that plagiarist.org had taken over many of the world's largest
corporations:
Fyi, see
http://plagiarist.org/acquisitions.html
For the story of Dupont's "cease-and-desist or we'll sue" motion against
plagiarist.org, which they served to my employer. (My employer is not
associated with
the site, which is a personal art project;
however, Dupont picked up my address at work from Internic records. )
Among the objectionable material Dupont found regarding plagiarist.org,
which they submitted to my employer,
was a death threat made by some completely unrelated person calling
him/herself "plagiarist" against an individual who is apparently public
relations director of the Jewish Defense League, and my inclusion of
the following text in the .plan of an unrelated-to-plagiarist,
personal e-mail account:
--------------
Uplifting quote:
"I've killed more people than the Unabomber has because I've
paid more in taxes than he has."
-Excene Cervenka
--------------
apparently Dupont didn't find that uplifting. after all, on their
"vision statement" web page, they say:
Our principles are sacred. We will respect nature and living things,
work safely, be gracious to one another and our partners, and each day
we will leave for home with consciences clear and spirits soaring.
which is comforting, in light of the cleanoceanaction.org web page, which
states:
The Thousand Fathom Club, a group of offshore anglers, organizes an east
coast boycott of Stren Fishing Line and other DuPont products.
This, coupled with pressure from a variety of other organizations
(including a banner plane reading "DUPONT DUMPS IN YOUR OCEAN"), results
in DuPont withdrawing one of its two ocean dumping permits.
So for the record, I've neither dumped in the ocean (very good about
using the restroom) nor made death threats against anyone from the Jewish
Defense League or anywhere else. However, I do sometimes think Excene
Cervenka is witty.
non-violently and environmentally yours,
-amy (plagiarist)
